| Starview Ranch
Howdy Folks! Thanks for dropping in! Welcome! Welcome to Starview Ranch -- a dream come true for us. Our small 120 acre ranch is located at an altitude of about 7,000 feet on the High Plains of eastern Colorado about 8 miles east of Calhan, Colorado. Calhan is about 40 miles northeast of Colorado Springs, and is known as the highest non-mountain town in the United States at an altitude of 6,507 feet. The Starview Ranch category contains photo albums of the ranch property itself, our house, garage, workshop, barn, tractor, wind projects, and more. What’s a wind project, you ask? You’ll see for yourself (smile). Since we are located on very open land, with no obstructions of any kind except for the buildings on our property, the wind is normally pretty constant at about 10 mph on average. There are days when it blows at 30-40 mph with gusts over 50 mph for a day or two at a time. In an attempt to enjoy this kind of wind much more, we’re working on several wind projects and have started collecting wind art too. Why do we call our property Starview Ranch? On a clear night when you look up, you can see billions and billions of stars -- as Carl Sagan would have said. At our high altitude (about 7,000 feet), with no city smog or lights, the evening sky is an awesome sight to behold. Unfortunately, our digital camera is not able to capture this beauty, so we can’t share it with you (sigh). It is such an incredible sight, and since we’re on grazing (ranch) land, which is too dry for farming, we decided to name our property the Starview Ranch. No, we’re not raising cattle or any other livestock or farm animals at this time. We moved here in September of 1999 and we want to get to know the property better before we consider having critters on it. There is a lot of fence mending to do, about 3/4 of a mile of new property line fence to be put up, fencing around the house, barn, garage, driveway, and other things that need to be done first. Viewing the Photos When you select an album, the photos it contains are displayed as thumbnail (small) images along with their title. To view a 640 x 480 size photo along with a text description, click on the thumbnail image. If you want to see an 800 x 600 size photo, click on the 640 x 480 photo and a new window will open that contains the larger image.
If you don't want to read the text for each image, that Don so painstakingly entered (snicker), you can click the slideshow icon on the 640 x 480 photo page. Then, sit back and enjoy the show -- but without any picture descriptions.
Hope you enjoy our Photo Albums! Your Hosts, Don & Carla Click the "Starview Ranch" text, above the Don waving picture, to view a list of Starview Ranch photo albums.
